The Region : Deportation Case Upheld

Share

A Los Angeles immigration judge, denying defense allegations of government misconduct, refused to dismiss a deportation case against eight people accused of belonging to a Palestinian Marxist group. Immigration Judge Ingrid Hrycenko also denied defense allegations that the charges were unconstitutional and that the government was singling out Arabs. Immigration and Naturalization Service officials dropped subversion charges against six of the eight on Thursday but vowed to deport them on visa violations. Defense attorneys will seek a restraining order Monday from a federal judge to halt the deportation. The seven Jordanians and one Kenyan were arrested in January in a joint FBI-INS raid and charged with belonging to the Marxist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
