Unheralded Valery Lyukin, recording a pair of perfect 10s, surprised world-champion teammate Yuri Korolev to win the all-around title and lead the Soviet Union to the team championship in the McDonald’s Gymnastics Challenge at Denver. Lyukin, 20, has limitedinternational experience.
Dan Hayden of Tucson was the top American in the all-around, tying Vladimir Novikov for fourth place at 58.70.
