Just as they did at the Academy Awards, independent films reined in the six top awards given over the weekend at the ninth annual Houston International Film Festival. Independent film company Skouras Pictures was the big winner, with wins in four of six categories: best picture, “Waiting for the Moon”; best actor, Anton Glanzelius in “My Life as a Dog”; best actress, a tie between “Moon” stars Linda Hunt and Linda Bassett; and best cinematography, Sasha Vierny for “A Zed and Two Noughts.” Other winners: best foreign film, “In the Jaws of Life” and best director, Arturo Ripstein for “Realm of Fortune.”
