A 25-year-old Mexican was killed Tuesday after his car ran off Highway 1 at high speed in Tijuana and tumbled over an embankment into the United States.
Deputy Coroner Chuck Kelley reported that the driver, Marcos Antonio Nieto, 25, of Tijuana, was driving on an elevated section of the highway about 7:45 a.m. when he lost control of the car and skidded off the roadway down a steep embankment.
Nieto was found dead at the scene about 20 feet north of the border and south of Dairy Mart Road. Kelley said Nieto was removed from the vehicle by illegal aliens before U.S. Border Patrol agents arrived.
