After three hours of hearings, Los Angeles County supervisors ordered county health officials and the Emergency Medical Services Commission to review the operations of the county’s troubled trauma center network and report back in May. Among the changes to be considered are priority status for transferring indigent trauma patients from private hospitals to county hospitals after they are stabilized, and elimination of the requirement that an anesthesiologist be on duty at all times in all urban trauma center hospitals. The board also said it would lobby the Legislature and Gov. George Deukmejian for additional funds to treat indigent patients, including trauma patients.
