San Pedro : Funds for Angels Gate Park

Share

The Los Angeles City Council has approved an agreement with the state that sets aside more than $673,000 in state funds for improvements to Angels Gate Park.

The money is part of an $8.6-million grant awarded to the city under a state community parkland bond issued in 1986. The money is expected to be available in July, after the Legislature approves the state 1987-88 budget, city officials said.

Joel Breitbart, a city parks official, said the city will hold public hearings before deciding how to use the money at the 64.5-acre park, which once belonged to the federal government. He said the city may demolish some of the Army barracks still standing at the park, but he said most of the money will probably be used for grading, landscaping, irrigation and picnic areas.
