South Korean President Chun Doo Hwan’s ruling Democratic Justice Party warned that it would deal sternly with agitation for election reform--the centerpiece of a new hard-line opposition party’s platform. The warning came as dissident Kim Dae Jung and his political ally, Kim Young Sam, prepared their platform for the inaugural convention today of the Reunification Democratic Party. The ruling party statement said the two Kims “will be inviting a grave disaster to the country” if their new party presses for a constitutional amendment providing for direct election of the next president. Officials of the new party said they will continue to insist on election reform.
