Decent Families in the Outfield

Share

The Times article on the Angels’ new family seating section (April 18) is certainly a sad commentary on our society today. It is tragic to realize that decent families who enjoy baseball have to be relegated to the outfield in order to be free from drunks who can only communicate by obscenities.

What about the season ticket holders who bring their families to the games and have to put up with the same environment? I have been a season ticket holder for 20 years. It used to be fun to come to the games with my family, but now I wonder who is going to be in the box in front of me or behind me.

Most of these boxes are owned by companies that give their tickets to their employees or to people with whom they do business. I believe that most of the owners would be embarrassed by some of the behavior that goes on in their boxes. My suggestion is to notify the owner of any complaints. After a certain number of legitimate complaints, the owner should lose the privilege of buying the box for the next season.

Someone, sometime, is going to have to draw a line at what will be tolerated at sporting events. Decent people and their families make up the bulk of the Angel fans. We should not have to have our outings ruined by marijuana, excessive liquor and constant obscenities yelled in our ears. If the Angels appreciate their real fans, they will do something constructive for the rest of us. It might work if you quit selling hard liquor or stick the obscene drunks out in left field.
