Chinese health authorities began implementing new regulations to test foreigners coming to live in China for the AIDS virus and other contagious diseases. Tourists visiting China on a short-term basis are not to be tested under the new regulations. But foreigners who plan to live, work or study in China for a year or more must acquire a physician’s certificate before going there to show that they have taken a test and are free of the virus that causes the acquired immune deficiency syndrome, or AIDS.
