Novella Evans, the mother of Rams’ second-round draft choice Donald Evans, died Saturday morning in a North Carolina hospital from complications resulting from surgery last Tuesday to amputate her right foot because of gangrene, the Rams said.

Evans, 65, had also recently suffered a heart attack and was afflicted with diabetes and related liver and kidney ailments.

Donald Evans, a defensive end from Winston-Salem State in North Carolina, was the 47th player selected overall in last Tuesday’s NFL draft.
