“Escape From Sobibor” was one of the most powerful TV movies I have ever seen. By the end, I found myself actually on the edge of my chair, leaning toward the screen. Suddenly, as the 600 prisoners were running into the mine fields, toward the forest and freedom, the background music became so pronounced that I felt like I was watching the Lone Ranger riding off with a hardy “Hi-yo Silver, away!” to the strains of the “William Tell Overture.” What a terrible thing to do to one of the most realistic and sad presentations of the death camps of World War II.
