Prison authorities in Lyon, France, began an inquiry into how alleged Nazi war criminal Klaus Barbie, 73, awaiting trial on charges of crimes against humanity, gave an interview to a British newspaper, judicial sources said. The Mail on Sunday published the interview, saying it had slipped questions into Barbie’s prison cell with the answers smuggled out. The sources said investigators will try to determine if prison guards had helped the interviewers and compromised the tight security surrounding Barbie. In the interview, Barbie said he would consider naming French citizens who collaborated with the Gestapo during World War II.
