The World : Rockets Slam Into Galilee

Share

Israel celebrated its 39th Independence Day as Katyusha rockets slammed into the Galilee region in the north. Security sources said the rockets caused no injuries or damage. Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir took the occasion to appeal for a delay in moves toward an international peace conference. Foreign Minister Shimon Peres has been pushing for such a meeting and has threatened to bring down the national unity government over the issue. In an interview with state radio, Shamir reiterated his objections but added: “Let us examine the proposals made to us. Let us look into them in depth--all aspects. Then we will decide if this obliges us (the coalition) to part or not.”
