The Nation : Reagan OKs AIDS Panel

President Reagan approved the establishment of a national commission on AIDS and ordered it to review research on the fatal disease and study areas in which research should be directed. The panel, whose members have not been named, would also assess the long-term impact of the AIDS epidemic on U.S. health care. “AIDS is clearly one of the most serious health problems facing the world community and our health care establishment is working overtime to find a cure,” Reagan said in a written statement. “The commission will help us to ensure that we are using every possible public health measure to contain the spread of the virus.”
