‘The Court Tunes Out’

Share

The Times’ opposition to the Supreme Court ruling on the death penalty is confused. The issue is not whether killers of whites are more likely to be executed than the killers of blacks. The real issues are:

1--Are the people on Death Row guilty of murder?

2--Have the people on Death Row received a fair trial?

We should not outlaw the death penalty just because one group of people are more likely to be executed than another. Instead, we should double our efforts to make sure that all murders receive equal treatment: the death penalty, regardless of race, religion or wealth.

I have no sympathy for murderers.
