The Soviet Composers’ Union has declared that young people in the Soviet Union are spending too much time listening to pop music, the official news agency Tass reported Wednesday. “Recently pop music has occupied too big a place in the intellectual life and leisure time of young Soviet people--the Composers’ Union expressed its attitude in no uncertain terms,” Tass said, reporting a union meeting this week. “While recognizing the right of light and modern music to exist, it (the union) has been consistently working to keep its aesthetic and ideological standards high,” Tass said.
