Trimedyne Inc., a Santa Ana-based manufacturer of medical laser devices, reported a fiscal 1987 second-quarter net loss of $122,000, compared with a loss of $218,000 for the same period a year earlier. Revenue for the quarter ended March 31 rose 92% to a record $2.3 million from $1.2 million a year earlier.

For the first half, Trimedyne reported a net loss of $269,000, compared with a year-earlier loss of $405,000. Sales for the first half jumped 87% to $4.3 million from $2.3 million a year earlier.

Company officials attributed the improved performance to increased sales of the Optilase Laser System and Laserprobe-PLR Catheter for the treatment of atherosclerosis of the legs. Trimedyne received U.S. marketing approval for these products from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in March.
