The International Olympic Committee will send a delegation to North Korea for the first time late this month as part of an effort to defuse a possible boycott of the 1988 Summer Games, sources said from the IOC meetings in Istanbul, Turkey.
The trip to Pyongyang will be aimed at better preparing for a fourth set of negotiations between North and South Korea over the North’s demands that it have a co-host role in the Games, which were awarded to Seoul.
