Thomas R. Wheelock has been named executive vice president and chief operating officer at Santa Ana-based Alpha Micro, company officials announced Tuesday.

In this newly created position, Wheelock, 40, will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the computer firm.

Before joining Alpha Micro, Wheelock was an associate of Mellert Hankin Enterprises, providing consulting service to Alpha Micro’s board of directors. He previously held positions as vice president of operations for Interscope Investments, Los Angeles, and directed operations in Southern California for MCI Communications.
