‘Dirty Attitude in a Dirty Little War’

I am greatly disturbed by the manner of the coverage of the recent incident in Nicaragua involving the death of the apparent Communist sympathizer Benjamin Linder. I by no means necessarily support the means and tactics being used by the U.S. government in its effort to topple the Sandinista government of Nicaragua. As a freedom-loving American citizen, I certainly don’t condone any American supporting this Marxist government in any way.

Linder, it was reported, clearly understood the risk he was taking in his efforts in support of the Sandinistas. He apparently felt so strongly in his cause that it seems like he almost invited a martyr’s death. In any event, the accusations by his family, and I suppose other like-minded sympathizers, that the U.S. government murdered him is, from the facts visible at this time, ludicrous. The real culprits directly responsible for his death are the supporters of the Oregon organization who made it possible for him to be there and carry out his crusade.
