New York Met Manager Davey Johnson is reportedly furious and hurt after General Manager Frank Cashen made two player moves and failed to activate Roger McDowell--all, according to Johnson, without final consultation with him.

“This has never happened in my four years here,” Johnson said. “I guess that’s what happens when your team is under .500. Your opinion doesn’t matter anymore.”

When informed of Johnson’s anger, Cashen said, “I don’t have any comment on that.”

The Mets placed pitcher Bob Ojeda on the 15-day supplemental disabled list. An examination in New York of his left elbow revealed inflammation around the ulnar nerve.

Johnson was angered that he was not informed directly about the examination. “I never talked to the doctor,” Johnson said. “Everything I heard was third-hand.”

The Mets recalled right-handed pitcher John Mitchell from Tidewater, Va., a move that Johnson considered ill-timed. Mitchell, who was 3-1 with a 3.41 earned-run average, is a starting pitcher who will pitch against Houston Thursday but can’t be used before then.
