“Family Ties” producer Gary David Goldberg said “White House involvement” in drug messages has “almost reached McCarthy proportions.” At a news conference on TV and teen-agers held by the American Academy of Pediatrics during its convention in San Francisco, Goldberg said, “What’s happening now is, if you don’t take almost some sort of loyalty oath, saying ‘in our show we will (speak out against drugs),’ you all of a sudden become suspect.” Goldberg added that he limits the time and kinds of programs that his own two girls watch and suggested that actors and producers would be willing to give up a portion of their incomes if families would spend one night a week talking instead of watching TV.
