The English Channel tunnel cleared another hurdle.

Share

British and French railways announced agreement on payments for using the future English Channel tunnel, clearing the way for raising the equivalent of $8.3 billion for the project. British Rail and the French national railway, SCNF, have been negotiating for nine months with Eurotunnel, the British-French consortium that is running the project. The talks were based on guaranteed levels of usage and tolls that Eurotunnel needs to demonstrate the economic viability of the tunnel. The tunnel is scheduled to open in 1993.
