Jordan’s national airline ALIA may resume flights to and from Beirut after a two-year suspension, a company spokesman said Tuesday.

“We are studying the matter now that the situation in Beirut is better following the deployment of Syrian troops there,” the spokesman said.

Syrian troops moved into the Lebanese capital in February to end rival militia fighting.

ALIA suspended flights to the Lebanese capital in June, 1985, after Muslim militiamen hijacked one of its passenger planes and blew it up at Beirut airport.
