Chinese authorities have detained a government official on charges of selling state secrets to a Japanese reporter who has been expelled for spying, the official New China News Agency disclosed. The agency quoted a government spokesman as saying that an official named Tang Dadi is being held for providing “internal secrets” to Shuitsu Henmi, a correspondent for the Tokyo-based Kyodo News Service, in return for monthly payments of about $135.
