Xytronyx Inc. Files for Patent on Material

Xytronyx Inc. has filed for a patent on a material that monitors exposure to potentially dangerous ultraviolet radiation emitted by the sun, the company said Wednesday.

The non-toxic material, which can be attached to clothing or skin, changes color as it absorbs ultraviolet radiation. Xytronyx envisions “immediate commercial applications for a number of products in the outdoor recreation field,” according to Xytronyx founder and Chairman Peter Baram.

The material could help people determine “ . . . when it is time to get out of the sun, reducing the chance of a serious burn and potential skin cancer,” Baram said.
