Barbie Can Boycott Trial

LYON, France —
A judge today refused to force former Lyon Gestapo chief Klaus Barbie to attend his trial on charges of crimes against humanity despite pleas from lawyers representing some of his victims. Barbie has refused since Wednesday to appear in court. He contends he was kidnaped from Bolivia in 1983 and illegally brought to France.
