NEC reportedly will make computers in the U.S.

The Asahi Shimbun newspaper said NEC would begin production of its desktop “APC-4” computer at its plant in Foxborough, Mass., this month and its laptop “MultiSpeed” model at a factory in Georgia beginning in June. It said NEC made the decision because U.S. trade sanctions and the yen’s increasing strength against the dollar have almost cut off NEC’s personal computer exports to the United States. NEC officials could not be reached for comment.
