A 25-year-old Van Nuys man died Tuesday morning after his speeding motorcycle slammed into the side of a van in North Hollywood, Los Angeles police said.

Juan Molina’s motorcycle struck a van that was turning left from westbound Roscoe Boulevard into a gas station at Coldwater Canyon Avenue at 7:10 a.m., Officer Frank Zdroy said. Molina was speeding through the intersection at an estimated at 60 to 70 m.p.h., Zdroy said.

Molina was pronounced dead about an hour later at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Panorama City, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Zdroy said police still were investigating whether the van’s driver, Joaquin Renteria, 24, of North Hollywood, made an improper turn. Renteria and two passengers in the van were not hurt, he said. Molina was not wearing a helmet, he said.
