The Region : Guilty Plea in Export Case

Share

A former Northrop University professor pleaded guilty to preparing false export documents used to send models and components for deadly “cluster-bomb” weapons to Saudi Arabia and Iraq. Richard P. Nortman, 60, of Venice has tentatively agreed to testify against the two alleged leaders of the illegal export scheme, Richard Schroeder of Diamond Bar and Anthony Cenci of Costa Mesa, who federal prosecutors say engaged with Nortman in a scheme to steal the plans and offer help in building the bomb to the Saudi and Iraqi governments for up to $880 million. Nortman faces a potential 20 years in prison and a $2-million fine when sentenced July 27 by U.S. District Judge Pamela Rymer.
