The Nation : Stiffer Lobbying Bill Voted

The Senate Judiciary Committee, responding to allegations against some top figures in the Reagan Administration, voted to crack down on high-ranking government officials who leave and lobby for foreign and domestic clients. The sweeping legislation, co-sponsored by Sens. Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.) and Howard M. Metzenbaum (D-Ohio), would bar the highest-ranking government officials from lobbying for foreign governments for three years and for American clients for 18 months. Current law generally prohibits high-ranking government officials from lobbying their former agencies for one year.
