British Frigates in Gulf Get OK to Fire

LONDON —
The captains of Britain’s two frigates in the Persian Gulf have been ordered to open fire if they believe their vessels are under threat of attack, the British Broadcasting Corp. said Tuesday.
The Ministry of Defense declined to confirm the report, but a spokesman said that British defense chiefs have urgently reviewed maneuvers of the frigates after Sunday’s attack by an Iraqi jet on the American frigate Stark.
