Yugoslavia’s cultural heritage is being eroded by art thefts, the official Tanjug news agency said Wednesday. It said that from 1982 to 1986, police recorded 1,627 thefts of archeological relics, ethnological objects, original works of art, coins and other priceless items. Most of the stolen objects were smuggled abroad. Only 48% were retrieved and returned to the country, Tanjug said.
