URS to Aid Colorado in Bid for Atom Smasher

Share

URS Corp. Wednesday announced that it has been awarded a $900,000 contract to serve as site proposal preparation coordinator for the state of Colorado’s superconducting super collider project.

The proposed $4.4-billion dollar project, if approved and financed by the federal government, would be the world’s largest and most powerful particle accelerator, or atom smasher, and would greatly expand scientific understanding of high-energy physics.

A number of states, including California, Illinois and Texas, are competing with Colorado for selection by the U.S. Department of Energy as the site of the project.
