Cambodians Observe ‘National Hatred Day’
Thousands of Cambodians gathered Wednesday at a former torture center in Phnom Penh to observe a “Day of National Hatred” against former leader Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouge followers, accused of killing millions of their countrymen.
SPK, the official Cambodian news agency, said more than 5,000 Cambodians gathered at the Tuol Sleng Museum of Genocide in the Cambodian capital to lay wreaths and burn incense. The Khmer Rouge had turned the former Tuol Sleng French school into a prison and a torture center after they seized power in 1975. The infamous building became a memorial to the victims of the Khmer Rouge.
