Muslim kidnapers said today that an “investigation” of three American hostages and one Indian hostage revealed involvement with U.S. and Israeli intelligence services.

The handwritten statement from Islamic Jihad for the Liberation of Palestine was delivered to the Beirut newspaper An Nahar along with a Polaroid picture of hostage Alann Steen.

It said its investigation of “the four American spies” revealed involvement of “high-ranking political, educational and diplomatic figures in conspiring with the Israeli Mossad secret service and the U.S intelligence.

“We are still awaiting the completion of this information to . . . bring the four to reckoning and announce the outcome of the investigation.”

The group kidnaped Steen, Jesse Turner, Robert Polhill and Mithileshwar Singh, a legal U.S. resident alien, from the campus of the U.S.-affiliated Beirut University College on Jan. 24.
