Bracy Hearing Recesses Without Decision
A grand jury-like hearing to determine if there is enough evidence in the sex-for-secrets Moscow embassy scandal to try a Marine guard on espionage charges recessed Thursday without a decision.
The closed hearing for Cpl. Arnold Bracy, 21, at the Quantico, Va., Marine base ran more than six hours before it recessed until today, a Marine spokesman said.
Bracy has been accused of espionage and related charges and of illegal sexual relations with a Soviet woman employee of the U.S. Embassy in Moscow.
He also was charged with helping another former Marine guard, Sgt. Clayton J. Lonetree, 25, escort Soviet agents through the embassy. But his recantation of earlier statements led the Marines to drop those charges against Lonetree.
Lonetree, who underwent a hearing similar to Bracy’s earlier this month, is to be court-martialed July 15 on other spy-related charges.
