The percentage of minorities in the nation’s private boarding and day college preparatory schools has doubled in the last 15 years, with the fastest growth among Asian-American students, the National Assn. of Independent Schools reported. Asian-Americans outnumbered blacks by a slight margin this year, 15,193 to 15,096, the association said. Each group accounted for 4.7% of the overall enrollment of 324,025 students at 815 prep schools. There were also 5,709 Latino students (1.8%) and 347 native Americans (0.1%), for a total minority enrollment of 36,345, or 11.3%. In 1972, minorities accounted for 5% of the enrollment.
