Fidel Castro said in a newspaper interview that the Cuban Communist Party has committed a series of errors in recent years, including briefly introducing farmers’ markets, but he declared that all such mistakes have now been corrected. The newspaper, L’Humanite, official organ of the French Communist Party, also quoted Castro as saying that he is prepared to conclude agreements with the United States or France to let Cubans “who prefer a capitalist society to our socialist society” leave. But he said he would not be blackmailed into doing so, the paper reported.
