1st Tropical Depression of Year Forms in Atlantic

MIAMI —
The year’s first tropical depression in the Atlantic formed east of the Bahamas on Monday and drifted slowly northward with winds near 35 m.p.h., forecasters said. An Air Force reconnaissance plane reported that the depression, which was first spotted as a broad low-pressure system, was situated about 350 miles east of the Bahamas, the National Hurricane Center said.
