Oak Industries Inc. Agrees to Sell Unit

Oak Industries Inc. has agreed to sell its Croven Crystals Ltd. unit to Datum Inc. of Anaheim for cash and Datum stock warrants, the companies announced Wednesday. Sale price of Croven, which makes high frequency quartz crystals for commercial and military applications, was not disclosed.

Oak acquired controlling stock of Croven and two other companies from Electronic Technologies Inc. of New York on April 10. The three units had combined 1986 sales of $18 million. An Oak spokeswoman, who did not break out Croven’s sales, said the decision to sell the unit was influenced by its being headquartered outside the United States in Whitby, Ontario, Canada.
