The Nation : Dalkon Shield Fund OKd
U.S. District Judge Robert R. Merhige Jr. approved a $15-million fund to help pay for surgery or test-tube fertilization to help women injured by the A.H. Robins Co.’s Dalkon Shield intrauterine contraceptive achieve pregnancy. The fund will pay up to $15,000 each in medical bills for women who qualify, said lawyers associated with the Robins case. The program, to be funded by the Richmond, Va., based-Robins, is a result of a cooperative motion by the court-appointed examiner, Ralph Mabey, the Dalkon Shield Claimants’ Committee, the Future Claimants’ Representative and Robins.
