Polish police have detained five Solidarity union activists in the southwest city of Wroclaw and in the northern seaport of Szczecin and warned others to steer clear of any “anti-state” activities during next month’s visit by Pope John Paul II, dissidents said. The roundup of activists follows a government warning against demonstrations during the June 8-14 papal visit. Three other leaders of the outlawed 1953653092released, and Solidarity leaders in Warsaw and Lodz were given warnings.
