SANTIAGO, Chile —
Two dissident journalists were indicted Saturday on charges of defaming the armed forces in a story published last year, a spokesman for their newspaper said.
Gilberto Palacios, reporter for the leftist daily Fortin Mapocho, was indicted and ordered jailed by military judge Cmdr. Enrique Olivares, deputy editor Ismael Llona said.
Felipe Pozo, the newspaper’s executive editor, was indicted in absentia. He was in Peru attending a journalism conference, Llona said.
