Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy will reprise their Broadway roles in a TV adaptation of “Foxfire,” a play that Cronyn wrote with Susan Cooper. It’s about an Appalachian farm family, with John Denver cast as the son. The “Hallmark Hall of Fame” production for CBS is being filmed in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.

A high school driving class is the setting for “Driver’s Ed,” a comedy film that NBC has ordered for next season. The students are played by Tina Yothers of “Family Ties,” Alyssa Milano of “Who’s the Boss?,” Rob Stone of “Mr. Belvedere” and Brian Bloom of “As the World Turns.” The teacher is Jackee Harry of “227.” Also in the cast are Harvey Korman, Charlie Robinson, Dick Butkus and Ray Waltson.

Byron Allen teams up with Charles Durning in “Case Closed,” a comedy for CBS about a couple of detectives investigating a spate of murders. Allen concocted the story and also co-produced the film.

Bruce Hornsby and Ray Charles will be Willie Nelson’s guests on his first prime-time special for CBS next season. It’s being taped in Texas by producer-director Don Mischer, whose previous credits include the “Kennedy Center Honors,” “The Tony Awards” and “Baryshnikov on Broadway.”

Richard Jordan and Peter Gallagher have joined the cast of “The Ballad of Mary Phagan,” a TV movie for NBC that stars Jack Lemmon. Lemmon plays a Georgia governor who must decide the fate of a convicted murderer (Gallagher). Jordan portrays the man who leads the murder investigation.
