General Dynamics received a $3.5-billion award.

The Army Tank Automotive Command issued the multi-year contract for up to 3,299 M1A1 Abrams tanks to be delivered over the next four years. General Dynamics would build 840 tanks the first year and 720 tanks each year thereafter. More than 4,100 M1 tanks have been delivered since 1980. The tanks are built at Warren, Mich., and Lima, Ohio.
