Two men were indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of illegally exporting high-technology computer microprocessors and integrated circuits to Sweden and Poland. Marek Cieslak, 37, a Polish citizen, and Andrzej Schmidt, 38, a citizen of Canada, were arrested May 13 when they attempted to board a plane bound for Sweden at Los Angeles International Airport and $46,000 worth of microprocessors were found in their carry-on luggage. Federal prosecutors say the microprocessors allegedly exported without proper licenses were state-of-the-art devices with a variety of civilian and military computer applications.
