In a week filled with reruns, reruns and more reruns, NBC won the oft-repeated struggle in the A.C. Nielsen ratings for the week ending May 31, released Tuesday. NBC had a 14.0 average to CBS’ 12.0 and ABC’s 10.8. NBC’s season-to-date average is 17.2, CBS’ is 15.3 and ABC’s is 13.6. Each rating point represents 874,000 homes. Of the Top 10 prime-time shows in the ratings--”Family Ties,” “The Cosby Show,” “Cheers,” “Growing Pains,” “Murder, She Wrote,” “Who’s the Boss?” “60 Minutes,” “Unsolved Mysteries,” Bob Hope’s NBC birthday special and “The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd”--only the last four were newly produced programming. While CBS’ “Miss Universe Pageant” came in 11th, its rating of 15.6 was the lowest ever for the pageant. Bringing up the rear: “Our World,” “Hard Copy,” “A-Team Special,” “West 57th,” “Ohara,” “Starman,” “Outlaws,” “Disney World’s 15th Birthday,” “Hard Copy” (in a different time period) and “Survival Anglia: Polar Bear!” The complete Nielsens list appears on Page 12.
