Sens. Howard M. Metzenbaum (D-Ohio) and John Heinz (R-Pa.) pitched foreign-made flatware used in Senate dining rooms into a cardboard box bearing the words “Made in Japan, Korea, Taiwan.” The words were circled and marked with a diagonal slash. Foreign-made flatware had been used in Senate dining rooms for more than a decade. It will be replaced with utensils donated by the Specialty Steel Industry of the United States and Oneida Ltd. House members have taken similar action.
