Murder suspect Craig Peyer, fired last week as a California Highway Patrol officer, is working on swimming pools for an electrical contracting firm owned by longtime friends. Peyer is working for BLT Electric, a company owned by Bruce and Cecilia Johnson of Escondido, Cecilia Johnson confirmed. Peyer, 37, a 13-year CHP veteran, was arrested Jan. 15 and charged in the Dec. 27 strangulation death of Cara Knott, 20, a San Diego State University student. Peyer, free on $1-million bail, had been drawing his $3,025-a-month CHP salary until his termination, which he is appealing. His trial will begin Sept. 14 in San Diego Superior Court.
